What's Your Contour Flava? How to Choose between Cream and Powder Contour Kits

December 21, 2016

Contouring is a highly favorable phenomenon right now.  This technique was perfected only on models during High Fashion shoots and Runway shows; however, thanks to YouTube we all can get a one on one Tutorial from our favorite makeup artist on how to beat and contour the heck out of our mug (Makeup slang for putting on Flawless makeup…lol). You can go from looking like your average girl next door to the sexy Megan Foxx. Yes, it’s that powerful! Contouring define and gives shape to the most flattering parts of your face as well as enhance your beauty through makeup. Celebrities like the Kardashian / Jenner sisters are known for rocking this amazing technique.  Contouring may seem a little confusing at the beginning, but practice makes perfect. To complete this look, it’s very imperative to use the right contouring kit for your complexion and skin type.

You heard me correct!  Using the wrong contour kit will ruin your entire look. Contouring is more than just putting some product under your eyes, and down your nose, it’s knowing your face and learning to bring life to it. Before you start your contouring process of chiseling your cheek bone & slimming down your nose, let’s figure out what contour kit fits best for your skin—Powder/Matte or Cream.

If you have oily skin like myself, matte/powder contour kits are your best friends. It was so hard for me to find a contour kit that will allow me to look fabulous for more than just 2 hours. Creams are guaranteed to move over your face and can cause unwanted shiny shimmer throughout the day. Yuck!!! Oily skin + cream gives you the effect of a melting clown face.....Hideous!!! If you do decide to use a Cream base, I highly recommend you to use a setting powder on top. Anastasia Beverly Hills Contour Kit is beyond my favorite powder kit. It hides blemishes & bumps and keeps your makeup intact all day into the night.

For my dry skin viewers, powder/matte kits might be your kryptonite when it comes to contouring. Cream-based kits are a better choice. Your dry skin serves as an excellent base to stop shifting; therefore, allowing the cream to stay intact all day (with a minor few touch ups here & there). Using lightweight cream kits help hydrate & prevent nasty cracks throughout your face. Dry skin + powder=unwanted wrinkled. Not a good look.

Contouring doesn't look like it's going anywhere, anytime soon--which means you might as well join the wave. Remember have fun while enhancing your beauty. You can mix and match your product together to get the best look that fits you. So the next time you feel as if your Selfie is missing a little Pizzazz don’t be afraid to contour and give a little enhancement to the beauty that’s already there.
